NYMA is located on the north coast of Cornwall. The campus is six miles north of West Point and five miles south of Newburgh. It is located at the intersection of Route 9W, 218 and Main Street.

Student apartments are more suitable for independent students who are looking for a clean, basic apartment at an affordable price. All students must be 9-16. At the base of Storm King Mountain in Cornwall, Orange County, east of Route 9W, the New York Military Academy (NYMA) is a college-preparatory boarding school founded in 1889. It is one of America's oldest boarding schools. and is among the 50 oldest private schools in the state.

The Academy was founded by Civil War General Charles Jefferson Wright of New Hampshire, who had an educational background in his home state. He believed that the military structure was an ideal environment for strengthening the academic achievements of his students.

"The original purpose of the academy was to train officers for the military with the hope that the graduates would go on to attend West Point," said Jonathan Gastel, the academy's deputy director. "It was basically a feeder school for West Point. After World War I, for a number of reasons, its focus shifted to a college preparatory school.

In the early days, the Academy accepted only male students, and there were less than 50 students. Wright was succeeded by Sebastian Jones, who oversaw operations from 1894 to 1922 during a period of significant challenges and growth.

The Academy experienced a major fire in 1910 that destroyed its main building, which housed the student quarters, Superintendent Jones' residence, the gymnasium, and the library. As about 200 cadets fled the burning building, Jones credited the school's strict compliance and repeated fire drills with preventing a more tragic outcome of the fire.

A new building was built on the footprint of the fingered building, which was reopened after the construction was completed. All that time, the Academy rented a hotel building about a mile from campus for cadet housing and classrooms. The studies continue within three days.

At first, cadets began their studies at the Academy in the fifth grade, but eventually it was changed from the eighth to the 12th grade. Over time, the Academy acquired surrounding property and expanded its campus from the original 30 acres to 550 acres.
